FUNNIEST. DAY. EVER! Sunday 14th July is most certainly a day to remember! The Red Bull Soapbox Race returned to London today for the first time in 9 years and I was lucky enough to be part of the production team for the day as TNR teamed up with Taylor Herring and Red Bull.
Soapbox racing is pretty self explanatory; self propelled, manned carts hurtle down a hill adorned with obstacles all in the name of entertainment. 70 teams took part in total and the eccentricity was as vivid as the sunshine that blazed over Alexandra Palace this afternoon. Everything from giant slices of cakes, london buses, hippy campervans, and a giant bath and toilet took part. Some made it spectacularly to the end and some, well, not so much! Take a look…
And if the ice cream in the sun and the comedy of errors that was inevitable wasn’t enough, I got to meet Christian Horner, Team Principle of the Infiniti Red Bull team! As an ex-racing driver he could not resist the urge to have a go himself and took off down the hill in a brilliantly prepared Red Bull F1 soapbox. Not quite as good Sebastian Vettel in the car but hey, he’s still got it!
All in all a fantastic day, incredible coverage with; ITV, Thomson Reuters, Associated Press to name a few who picked it up and a huge fun to be part of. Roll on next year!
